WhatsApp brings image and voice inputs to its ChatGPT integration

Engadget

The tech sector's ongoing effort to force-feed generative AI features into widely used services continues with updates to WhatsApp's ChatGPT integration. There are now more ways to interact with the chatbot in the app. To use it there, you have to add 1 (800) CHAT-GPT -- or 1 (800) 242-8478 -- to your contacts. WhatsApp says users around the world can now upload images to the chatbot, just like they can when using ChatGPT directly. You can also send a voice message to talk to ChatGPT, which will respond using text.

Apple Intelligence: What's new in iOS 18.2

Engadget

Apple Intelligence was the big news at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference back in June. Apple made good on a modest first wave of features in October. But iOS 18.2 -- along with sibling OS upgrades for Mac and iPad -- will bring a meatier set of Apple Intelligence features to Apple's suite of devices, including Genmoji, Image Playground and ChatGPT integration. To check out Apple's new AI, you must have an eligible device and run the current iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 or MacOS 15.1. Once approved, you'll receive a notification saying it's ready to activate on your device.

Volkswagen thinks ChatGPT integration will make its in-car voice assistant good

Engadget

AI is literally everywhere, so it's not a big surprise to learn that Volkswagen is planning to bring ChatGPT to its vehicles. As part of its CES 2024 announcements, the automaker says that its existing IDA voice assistant will work with ChatGPT across a range of its newer models. VW isn't the first to try this -- Mercedes-Benz announced ChatGPT integration in June of last year, so it seems like this is certainly a thing we're all going to have to get used to. Specifically, VW says that ChatGPT will be enabled in these specific models with the latest generation of the company's infotainment systems: ID.7 (pictured above), ID.4, It'll roll out ChatGPT as as "standard feature" in "many" production vehicles in Q2 of 2024; the company didn't say in which regions, but notes that the feature is only currently "being considered" for the US market.

NewsGPT: ChatGPT Integration for Robot-Reporter

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

The integration of large language models (LLMs) with social robots has emerged as a promising avenue for enhancing human-robot interactions at a time when news reports generated by artificial intelligence (AI) are gaining in credibility. This integration is expected to intensify and become a more productive resource for journalism, media, communication, and education. In this paper a novel system is proposed that integrates AI's generative pretrained transformer (GPT) model with the Pepper robot, with the aim of improving the robot's natural language understanding and response generation capabilities for enhanced social interactions. By leveraging GPT's powerful language processing capabilities, this system offers a comprehensive pipeline that incorporates voice input recording, speech-to-text transcription, context analysis, and text-to-speech synthesis action generation. The Pepper robot is enabled to comprehend user queries, generate informative responses with general knowledge, maintain contextually relevant conversations, and act as a more domain-oriented news reporter. It is also linked with a news resource and powered with a Google search capability. To evaluate the performance of the framework, experiments were conducted involving a set of diverse questions. The robot's responses were assessed on the basis of eight criteria, including relevance, context, and fluency. Despite some identified limitations, this system contributes to the field of journalism and human-robot interaction by showcasing the potential of integrating LLMs with social robots. The proposed framework opens up opportunities for improving the conversational capabilities of robots, enabling interactions that are smoother, more engaging, and more context aware.

Facebook accounts hijacked by new malicious ChatGPT Chrome extension

#artificialintelligence

A trojanized version of the legitimate ChatGPT extension for Chrome is gaining popularity on the Chrome Web Store, accumulating over 9,000 downloads while stealing Facebook accounts. The extension is a copy of the legitimate popular add-on for Chrome named "ChatGPT for Google" that offers ChatGPT integration on search results. However, this malicious version includes additional code that attempts to steal Facebook session cookies. The publisher of the extension uploaded it to the Chrome Web Store on February 14, 2023, but only started promoting it using Google Search advertisements on March 14, 2023. Since then, it has had an average of a thousand installations per day.

Fake ChatGPT extensions want to steal your Facebook account

PCWorld

That Chrome extension you downloaded to add ChatGPT integration to Google results may not be the legitimate one--and it could cause you to lose access to your Facebook account. Until earlier today, a malware copy of the "ChatGPT for Google" extension that stole Facebook session cookies could be found in the Chrome Web Store, allowing hackers to infiltrate accounts and lock users out. Discovered by security firm Guardio Labs and reported by BleepingComputer, the false extension leveraged the Chrome Extension API to sniff out active Facebook cookies and sent the pilfered data to the attacker's server. Hackers then logged into Facebook, changed the account credentials, and converted profiles to that of a false persona named "Lily Collins." These zombie accounts were used to spread malicious advertising and extremist propaganda.
